Spread the Love | A SIMPLE, HEALTHY HUMMUS RECIPE (GUARANTEED TO IMPRESS)

It's safe to say that in the project: CLEAN FOOD household, we're hummus fanatics. And why not? It's full of protein, fiber, and vitamins – making it one of the healthier dip options. But, as much as we love to eat it, a thought struck me: what would it be like to make it from scratch rather than buy it pre-packaged? So, yesterday, as I prepared Mother's Day dinner, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to make my own hummus for the first time (which is actually a little risky, now that I think about it). The result? I was pleasantly surprised to find that the preparation was simple and the taste was rich, creamy, and delicious.  Whether you decide to make it for yourself, for friends, or to impress your mother, we're sharing our recipe – guaranteed to wow.

Laundry is probably one of my least favorite chores. I get it, some people love it – the peaceful monotony of folding coupled with the smell of fresh clothes – but not me. For as long as I can remember, I have gladly left laundry in the very capable hands of my laundromat and never thought twice about it. Well, that was before I ended up at the dermatologist's office a few weeks ago, with a full-body allergic reaction. As she looked at me, she said, without hesitation, "this is an allergy to fabric softener. I just know it." Now, I am allergic to a lot of things, but fabric softener was never one of them. But, as I scanned my body, I knew that I had to change something. And luckily, through trial and research, I found a pretty incredible alternative to fabric softener that is safe, non-toxic, and most likely in abundance in your home.

Oh, avocados. This amazingly healthy–and very unique–fruit is filled with all sorts of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. It's different from other types of fruit in that it's not high in carbs (major plus), but it is high in heart-healthy fats that are very purifying, therapeutic and revitalizing for the entire body. It's also one of the most versatile foods, best eaten raw, and super-effective in oil form. So we're dedicating our Sunday to this amazing little plant.  And here's why.

Basta Pasta | A GLUTEN-FREE, VEGAN AMATRICIANA TO DIE FOR

If I could write a love song to Italian food, I would. Growing up in an Italian household, pasta was basically a food group. So, when I made the switch a clean eating lifestyle, I had to say goodbye to many of the things I was accustomed to eating: prosciutto, pasta, bread, mozzarella, you name it.  I have been on the quest to discover and create Italian dishes that are vegan-friendly, gluten-free, and dairy-free. Phew, do I sound like a cliche or what? Luckily, there are so many delicious alternatives out there. And, with a little creativity and playfulness, you can create meals that taste just as good as the "real thing." Like my Vegan Pasta All'Amatriciana. Which is super-delicious and easy to make. So, as they say in Italy, andiamo!

I'm sure you've taste-tested your fair share of Thai dishes: Pad Thai, Penang Curry, Tom Yum Soup, Peanut Duck Lettuce Wraps. Need I say more? If you're anything like me, you've ordered takeout or sat in a trendy restaurant, lounge music blaring, and thought to yourself, man, I wish I could cook like this. Well, the short answer is, you can. You don't have to be a top grade chef to cook these dishes (true story, I've cooked both on a hot plate as I wait for my landlord to replace my stove) All you need is a sense of adventure, a little time to prepare, and an open palette. Our brain is the essential component and centralized control system that governs all the other organs of our body. So, to put it in perspective, what your heart experiences your brain experiences. What your lungs experience, your brain experiences. What your senses experience, your brain experiences. What your entire digestive system experiences, your brain and the rest of your nervous system experiences. What your skin experiences, your brain experiences. See the connections we are making? Everything that we do and experience in this world is a direct result of our brain's functions, actions, and re-actions. So naturally if our brain is out of whack, our lives will be out of whack. On the other hand, if our brains are functioning beautifully and strongly, so will our lives: our internal and external world's are totally linked. But the bigger question: can we control our brain?

Judging? Who's judging? You can eat whatever you want at the beach. You can drink and enjoy anything you want at the beach. Just keep in mind that some things will make you look like a fatty. Some things make you look like a health nut and work-out junky. Some things make you look silly. Some things make you look desirable. Some things will make you look like you just don't give a damn. Yes, such is life: it is what it is. But, what if you want to maintain that sexy? What if you've worked out, exercised, toned up, and lost all this wonderful amount of weight that you are now ready to show off at the beach? What if you are ready to show of that über sick body of yours in that new bikini, or in those new trunks (never speedos boys. Well, if you're from Europe, I guess it's ok).
