project: CLEAN FOOD's PrOjecT oF tHe DaY || NO COOKED FOODS TOMORROW

So give it a try! Just for about 24 hours, see if you can eat foods that are plant-based and that are not prepared with any fire or heat. There are so many options! You can make fruit or vegetable salads, various nut and trail mixes, smoothies, freshly blended juices (and these are very filling), dried fruits (like figs, dates, apricots, etc) and many others! Avocados are also usually very filling (just an FYI). And use water your main beverage during this time (unless it's a juice or smoothie, which is A-okay in our book).

*No breads, bagels, grains of any sort, oatmeal, eggs or dairy products. No meats. Nothing boiled, cooked, fried or baked in any sort of way* (Just for 1 day, that's all)

Gosh, why so rigid and strict, you may wonder? Well, truth is, when you reduce the amount of cooked food in-take in the body, you tend to not only have more energy, but also the body experiences greater levels of health and vibrance on a daily basis: your energy levels will soar! And a 24-hour period of this will give you a small taste of what this feels like! Although it is only for a short period of time, the effects can be felt over the course of about 4- 6 days! Amazing, right!!

Are you ready? Set? Go for it! Trying something new is always so much fun and challenging: and we all love a good challenge, right? Give the New Year a fresh start by going outside of the box and breaking your comfort zone: just one small step! That's it! So simple! Embrace it with joy and happiness! And everything that you desire is coming! Radiant health is right around the corner! And we've got ya covered throughout the process! Don't you worry about it.

(ps--it's also a great time to check out a new restaurant: for all you foodies out there!)

Feel free to leave any feedback, if you wish!

Happy Tuesday!

CLEAN FOOD CAFE OF THE WEEK | THE AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL, TERRI.

This little treasure trove is one of the best organic vegan-vegetarian (and kosher) cafes here in New York City. We got there around lunch time and this place was bustling with a mix of suits, weight-lifting gym buffs, yogis and just your everyday New Yorker looking for a quick healthy fix while in transit!

Our first visit, some time ago, we did not have the opportunity to sit and enjoy one of their meals: we just grabbed one of their amazingly delicious strawberry mint lemonades! Just this week, we decided to pop in and sink our teeth into one of their ever so tasty sandwiches. And to no surprise, we were blown away! We had the Jerk Tofu Pineapple sandwich: and boy-oh-boy was it good! Mixed with all sorts of peppers, red onions, some fresh pineapple and just the perfect amount of Jerk Seasoning that'll make you feel like you're somewhere in the Caribbean savoring each and every bite of this yummy treat!

But while waiting for the sandwich, we couldn't help but notice all the other amazing delights that were coming out of their kitchen: a meatball sub, a bacon cheddar "chicken" ranch sandwich, and some really delicious looking salads that were graced with an abundance of quinoa and avocado! The fragrances and essences of the food swirling around, alone, was enough to die for! There are also some great little sides if the sandwich alone is not enough. They always have a great soup of the day, some quinoa or bean salad sides and even roasted sweet potatoes.

They have a good variety of smoothies and fresh juices! And with drink names like the LIVE LONG AND GREEN, BRAZILIAN BOMBSHELL, and LADY IN RED, how could one resist?

And of course, our favorite part: the yummy baked goods! They have a great selection of goods that include Apple Cider Donuts, Banana Walnut Bread, Chocolate Mocha Brownies, Chocolate Cupcakes and the list of indulgence just goes on and on!

So take a nice trip over to this chelsea hangout. If you have never had a vegetarian meal before, there is a great place to start! The options are great and the food is super delicious! The staff is super friendly and the food is always made fresh and, of course, with lots of love: and why not, ya!

Enjoy it! Feel free to tell us about your experience! We'd love to hear from you!

And I'm sure Terri would just as eagerly love to see you!

COLDER TEMPERATURES MEAN MORE BERRIES | STRONG BODY, STRONG MIND

As the temperatures start to dip a bit in the Northeast of the USA, and other parts of the world, it essential that we keep our levels of immunity as strong as possible. It is very easy during the fall/winter season to contract some sort of sickness or ailment. As we move through the world, we are easily exposed to others that are also healing from various illnesses. And because the winter season, requires more energy of your body, the body can easily contract illnesses from others if that energy is not replenished as often as possible.

The key thing is: keep the body strong and you don't ever have to worry about "healing it", ever! When the immune system has all the power and vitality it requires to move through the world, even if the body contracts some sort of virus or parasite, your immune system will destroy it before you even notice any symptoms. So in essence, if you keep your body strong and your immune system in tip top shape, you won't ever feel or experience any sort of sickness or illness.

And keeping that mind, one of the best type of foods that easily boost up your immune system are Mother Earth's premiere superfoods of the land: BERRIES! There many different varieties of berries. Berries are grown all over the world and have been a staple fruit in many diets across many cultures. Now in the Northeast and many other colder climates, it is rare that you will find any berries available. So a majority of the berries you will be eating will come from warmer, more moderate climates: like parts of California, countries in Central America, New Zealand and other parts of the world. While it is great to eat foods that are local and more rooted to the land, berries can act as a super powered vitamin to carry you through the winter season.

Here is a great list of some great berries to have during this time of the year:

*Raspberries
*Gooseberries
*Strawberries
*Kiwifruit (technically part of the berry family)
*Cranberries
*Persimmon
*Aronia Berry (Chokeberry)
*Plum Tomatoes
*Grapes

Berries, in general, have a very balanced content of vitamin C, beta-carotene, protein, potassium, phosphorous and a slew of other nutrients. In particular, they are known for their high level of anti-oxidants which are essential for boosting the strength of the immune system. Anti-oxidants, in addition to the other nutrients, fuse them themselves into your bloodstream as a means to purify the blood and, in turn, purify the entire body.

Berries are so powerful, that a salad mix of just them alone can be used as one whole meal. Every nutrient that is required for the body's everyday function is rooted right into these beautiful fruits of the Earth. Not only can you eat them fresh, but you can also use them as ingredients in your smoothies and when making fresh jams or preserves.

Have fun with these beautiful and amazing fruits. Try out some of the ones on the list that you may have never had before. Maybe introduce some friends or family members to these powerful fruits! Maybe even dabble in various recipes that incorporate berries into your meal plan. Eating can be exciting and fun! Just because food is healthy, it does not mean it has to be boring. Find the right balance of foods and recipes that fit suitably into your diet, and that allow for you to feel good about your body and your mind everyday! And when the mind and body feels good, it becomes a bit easier everyday to maintain radiant health and a super powerful immune system!

Enjoy!

project: CLEAN FOOD's CAFE OF THE MONTH | THE EVER FLOWING NILE VALLEY

Beautifully tucked into the Dekalb Market is Brooklyn's very own Nile Valley Eco~Juice and Salad Bar! This amazing little cafe is filled with all sorts of goodies (all of which are vegan). Their menu offers an array of dishes that include Caribbean style soups loaded with veggies, provisions, and spelt dumplings: and options can vary between split pea, lentil pea or black eye pea. They also have some warm food combos sometimes include black quinoa or wild rice (with veggies and cranberries) served with either lentils, kidney beans, black eye peas or other bean protein, and sauteed mixed greens. They also offer great veggie burgers, Caribbean patties, wraps and sandwiches of the sort and quite a few raw vegan desserts: and super delicious too!

When we visited, we fell in love with the Black Quinoa (learn more about Quinoa). Main reason is: it blended so well with all other things in our plate like the stewed beans and the lightly sautéed kale: so amazing! They also serve up some great organic, and freshly prepared juices and smoothies. According to Molicia Crichton of Nile Valley, "Organic is the best and most healthiest way for us to eat." And Nile Valley backs this by ensuring that all of their goods and produce are 100% organic and 100% Vegan Vegetarian (foods that are prepared without any dairy or other animal products or meats).

So get down to the Dekalb Market and catch them while you can! Take some time to visit the amazingly delicious Nile Valley. This cafe--in addition to rest of the market--- is open from now until the end of this year; then they re-open sometime in the early Spring season for more yummy goodness!

Enjoy!!
